Malawi
Although most visitors who travel in Malawi head straight for the great Lake Malawi, the country also has some magnificent scenery with lush forests, magical mountains, Great Plains and game. However it is the lake that draws people to it time and time again.

Dubbed the lake of stars by Livingstone when he first saw it because of the clear and magical reflection of the stars at night, the lake, the world’s ninth largest, sits at the southern end of the Rift Valley and is a veritable playground for locals and visitors alike with its superb beaches and great fishing. It is also home to some 500 varieties of the tropical cichlid fish, while in December on its shores a myriad of different species of orchid grow.

As well as the wonders of the natural world, Malawi is also home to a number of archaeological and anthropological sites where fossils, Iron Age workings and rock paintings can be seen.
