Day 1:

Overnight flight from Heathrow to Nairobi on Kenya Airways.

Day 2:

Fly onwards to Kigali where you will be met by your private driver/guide and taken to Nyungwe Forest National Park for a two night stay at Gisakura Guesthouse. Enroute visit the National Museum in Butare and the Murambi genocide memorial. (FB)

Day 3:

Enjoy full day guided nature walk in the forest in search of the 13 recorded species of primates, including colobus and vervet monkeys, olive baboons, grey-cheeked mangabey, and chimpanzees. Home to over 275 bird species, this is also the most important birding site in Rwanda. (FB)

Day 4:

After a morning guided forest walk travel to Lake Kivu to stay overnight in the Moriah Hill Resort. This interesting scenic drive takes about four hours on unmade roads. Moriah Hill Resort is a four star hotel situated on the shore of Lake Kivu with views across the lake. The hotel has 18 rooms, a restaurant and a bar. (FB)

Days 5-6:

Drive on the scenic road that tumbles through lush plantain fields and provides sweeping views over the lake to Gisenyi to stay for two nights at the Kivu Sun Hotel. This excellent new property offers a true lakeside beach experience, complete with swimming pool, tennis courts and direct access to the sands. In the afternoon visit the Imbabazi Orphanage. (FB)

Day 7:

Continue north, gradually climbing through the terraced hillsides to the Parc National des Volcans to stay for two nights at the Gorillas Moutain View Lodge. This charming lodge offers en-suite accommodation in bungalows set around a central lawn and surrounded by trees. (FB)

Day 8:

An early start to track the mountain gorillas. The trek through the forest and up the slopes of the volcano requires stamina and patience but the first encounter with these mighty animals will be a truly memorable one. After spending time observing these magnificent creatures visit the little-known but compellingly beautiful Lakes Burera and Ruhondo. (FB)

Day 9:

Return to Kigali to stay overnight stay at Kigali Serena Hotel. During the afternoon you will be taken on a tour of the city.

Day 10:

Fly to Nairobi and connecting flight to Heathrow on Kenya Airways.

Day 11:

Arrive UK.
